And no, I don’t mean it in an oft-used Vogue fashion editor language kind of a way. Ugly Christmas sweaters truly, genuinely make a statement in every sense of the word. It’s possibly the only surviving irony in fashion – to be intentionally unfashionable in order to be fashionable. Kind of like the 90s plaid shirts, but the plaid shirts are no more anti-fashion today as they were back then.
Ugly Christmas sweaters though, continue to be, well, not pretty. But surprisingly, that’s the USP of these outfits. Being ugly is the only claim to fame they have. Which is why they are statement makers and not just sweaters. They’re like the celebration of tradition and nostalgia of wearing that hideous sweater you granny would knit for you (like no thanks granny, why would you work so hard for nothing!) or the one your mom enthusiastically picked up from a vintage store she “discovered”, confident that you’d love it at first sight! And since ‘tis the season to be jolly, you give in to their questionable demands and spend an entire holiday looking like Colin Firth in that one scene from Bridgette Jones’ Diary.

I’ll say it again, this is a freakin’ adorable design for an ugly Christmas sweater. Made of polyester, it’s not too much, yet explicitly holiday-wear too. The color combination is a tasteful white and gray with red accents (hello cutesy little Santa snowmen!) and is a comfy jumper to wear all through the winter.
Yay:
The cute Santa and reindeer design. Did you notice the “shadow” details? I wonder if it has some kind of a significant message here.
