Technology affecting fashion is inevitable when designers become involved in the process. Either on the catwalk or clothing a famous person. Just as, “Philips Lumalive” has developed wearable technology, with the assistance of clothing designer Zaldy Goro (“Philips”). Who had been famously requested by Michael Jackson to design his stage clothes for “This is It” tour. Goro designed a pair of tuxedo pants with, “Philips Lumalive” lighting technology, replacing the satin strip from the side of the pants with woven led lighting into the pants (“Access Hollywood”). Since then the technology is advancing so rapidly and the public can start to purchase different forms of wearable technology that can help with health and fitness, such as leggings that control vibration. This motion control of “artificial muscles” can assist in developing a better yoga pose, posture correction, and athletic performance (“Smart Textiles”). In addition, sensors can be woven into garments to detect various health analytics, such as blood pressure, heart rate, respiration. These sensors can monitor a person’s daily activity and the data can be delivered to a doctor or personal device on an app. Further along, these sensors can be also used to regulate a person’s body temperature in extreme hot or cold conditions, such as a morning jogger on a cold winter day to keep a runner warm or an outfit to keep a runner cool on a hot summer day. There are many useful advantages of technology woven into everyday clothing.
The design aspect of technology affecting, interior decoration in the future is home and business based services. At home, accent walls can be adjusted as easily as a dimmer in the family room, however instead of dimming the area of a room, the atmosphere is completely changed with an infinite variety of color, or “add decorative effects”, for instance turning the room into a personal butler and using it as an alarm clock that transitions into a beautiful morning sunrise. Also in the future, when 3D technology is merged with woven “Philips Lumalive” technology, the possibility of transforming a game room into an actual full-sized interactive game room is possible (“Philips”). Moreover in the business aspect of a lobby or receptionist area designed, to “soften sound” businesses can create a warm reception room feeling instead of a cold and dull room, it can make the room more aesthetically pleasing. Another aspect of room enhancing wall panels will be the low cost of redecorating the area of a business or office area because the material is so easy to install and set up, this redecoration will be beneficial for small business owners and entrepreneurs, who want to upgrade their office setting but do not have the budget for expensive art to hang on the wall or to completely redesign of an office building. Moreover, an interesting note is Nano coating a house or building to help protect the exterior of the building from UV rays, this coating can protect the building from discoloration or early deterioration of the building materials (Nano).
When artists are able to incorporate canvas art and technology then it will bring on a new form of artistic phase. Artist will be able to work on their computer or phone and place their artwork into multiple gallery locations and these artists can have their art shown to a worldwide audience in the same night they reveal their latest creations. For an artist who is not known, it will be a life-changing experience so they can experience 15 minutes of fame. For example, if the “English-based graffiti artist”, Banksy had placed multiple stretched canvases with woven technology in multiple locations worldwide, his message would impact every location he placed his unique technique of street art (“Banksy”).
Famous brand name designers can bring their logo’s to life, so whoever has an “E-textile” shirt or pants can then display their favorite artists immediately when the artists send out their new design to the world in a matter of minutes (“E-textiles”). For instance, the Ralph Lauren logo could actually have a galloping horse with its jockey swinging its long-handled wooden mallet, after scoring the goal, the player can raise his hands in the excitement of scoring against the opposing team. The possibilities for designers are new and have not been developed, enough to predict what will happen in the future. However, the possibilities remain infinite and it will be very exciting how artists plan to combine the two mediums together.
In closing the public’s demand for wearable technology will predict a manufacturer’s ability to create items with technology and fashion, say for instance a child wanted shoes with lights, on the bottom of their shoe, that light up when they place one foot in front of another. The demand was high and the item is available, at just about any store. This example shows the public’s demand for a product to be mass-produced, for every child who requested to have a pair of light up shoes. Moreover, the merge of design and technology can become readily available for the average homeowner to easily install interior interactive design into any living space, or to upgrade their home décor if the demand is strong enough. Moreover, the exterior design of a building can be painted with Nanotechnology to prevent any type of wear and tear from environmental factors, such as hot, cold, wet, and dry condition to name a few natural elements. So the exterior of the building is safeguarded against any preventable future damage from the outside elements. Finally, art and technology can be interpreted very abstractly because art is left up to the eye of the beholder and it would be very difficult to translate the complexities of a person’s vision of art, however, the future is bright, and the industry will be dramatically different from its artistic predecessors. Finally it is said from Moore’s law that technology would change every 18 months, just as the world experienced the invention of the cellular phone being a large bulky item that only business people used and now today it is slimmer and multifunctional device for everyday usage, the same idea can be hypothesized that technology will become an everyday interaction in fashion, design, and art.
